What's Happening???

Hello, parents and students! It has really been an exhausting couple of weeks with reviewing and testing. I know your children are tired and ready for a break. I hope that you and they have a relaxing a fun break and come back ready to learn!

Over the next few weeks and until the end of the year, we will be reading our new novel, Freak the Mighty. The students already love it and we are only on Chapter 3! The students will completing a project that goes along with the book. We have gone over the instructions and rubric in class, so each child should know what is expected of him/her. They will be receiving their own copy of the project instructions and rubric when we come back from Spring Break. They will be able to complete the project in class, and will only need to work on it at home if they do not finish during class time.

Homework will be a little different from now until the end of the year. Students are expected to read for 20 minutes each night. In addition, if they do not complete the chapter comprehension questions during class, they will need to complete them for homework.

Let me know if you have any questions!

CASH MONEY!!

I informed the students today that I will be rewarding the highest score on either Reading or ELA (not both, one or the other) with $20.00!!! They are all capable, so encourage them to do their best!

Parent Information for the Week of March 28-April 1

WOW! I can't believe that the CRCT is so close! Only five more school days stand between us and the test!! We are in major review mode. While we will still be working in our review centers for some of the class period, I really want to give students a chance to ask questions about any content. We will be setting aside some class time to do just that, and review in our CRCT coach books. Today (Monday), our class visited the media center and played Jeopardy to review research and media skills. I am noticing that many students are not able to check out books because of fines or lost books. This really wastes their class time. Please make sure your child has his or her books on check out days. We go to the media center every other Monday. Grades this week will mainly be based on class participation since we are doing so much review. Grades will also be given for sponges, daily grammar practice, and homework.

This past week was packed with testing, media center, and other fun activities. So, we are a little behind on our learning centers. However, Monday should be our last day in our current learning centers, and I will be moving students into new centers based on how they are performing and what I feel they need for CRCT review. I am in the process of creating a few more centers to meet needs that I have observed in the area of conventions.
